Facial Enhancement Aftercare
Thank you for choosing Gemma Aesthetics for your facial enhancement treatment. To ensure a smooth recovery and effective results, please adhere to the following aftercare recommendations:
Immediate Aftercare
Post-treatment, you may experience slight redness, swelling, tenderness, or itching in the treated areas. These are common reactions and should subside within a few days.
Care for Treated Areas
- Avoid rubbing or applying pressure to the treated areas until the next day
- For the first 6 hours post-treatment, try to remain upright and avoid laying on a treated area for 24-48 hours.
- Do not massage any areas, especially lips, unless instructed by Gemma
- Apply a hydrating lip balm or ointment post-lip treatment for 24 hours. Ointments can be purchased in clinic.
- Water consumption is essential after your treatment. Being dehydrated will dramatically affect your results and down-time, 2L per day of water is recommended.
- Swelling will last for up to 1 week. Uneven swelling is completely normal, and this does not mean it will affect the symmetry of your results.
- Bruising may also last for up to 1 week. Bruises will look dark and concentrated to the area. It is normal for the bruise to leak slightly and to leak downwards. To avoid longevity of bruises, you may apply ice to the area and apply arnica ointment if needed.
Activities to Avoid Post-Treatment
- Refrain from consuming alcohol, engaging in strenuous exercise, and applying makeup for 24 hours after your treatment.
- Specific for cheek enhancements, avoid wearing restrictive headgear that may press on the treated areas for up to 4 weeks
- For lip enhancements, avoid smoking and applying lipstick for the first 24 hours.
Temperature Exposure
Post-treatment, avoid extreme temperatures, including direct sun exposure, UV light, and very hot or cold environments. After lip treatments, avoid hot beverages for the initial period.
Skin Care Products
Do not use products containing AHA, Retinol, Vitamin C, glycolic acid, or any harsh scrubs for 5 days following your treatment.
Other Skin Treatments
- Refrain from facial treatments like waxing, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or any facial mechanical treatments for 2-4 weeks to allow your skin to fully recover.
- Avoid laser treatments, intense pulsed light (IPL), energy-based procedures, dental work, and vaccinations for 2-4 weeks following your facial enhancement.
Signs and Symptoms of a Vascular Occlusion & Infection
During your consultation, Gemma explained to you that a rare risk of your treatment includes vascular occlusion (blockage of an artery) and infection.
If the treated area becomes very painful, hot to the touch, red and swollen - please contact Gemma immediately as these are signs of infection.
After your treatment, if any areas around the treated area start to appear a pale/murky colour, you get a bruise in a distant area to where we have treated, you start feeling a very sharp pain in the treated area, small white pimples appear, or a mottled appearance starts to show, please contact me immediately on 0438 960 338 as these are signs of a vascular occlusion.
Realist Expectations
Please understand it is important to have realistic expectations when it comes to your treatment. What worked well for one person, will not give the same result for another. There are certain medical and lifestyle factors that will affect the longevity of your results. For some clients, less is more, and for others, more is less. It is always completely dependent on your individual anatomy. Pre-existing asymmetry can’t always be corrected and may also affect your results. You may require a secondary treatment to improve your treatment.
